LUNAR TRANSIENT PHENOMENA
BY MONTHS OF THE YEAR
BY
DAVID O. DARLING
The graph below shows the total number of lunar transient events reported by the month of the year. This information is taken from the Lunar Transient Phenomena Catalog July 1978. This catalog was compiled by Winifred S. Cameron and the catalog can located as NSSDC/WDC-A-R&S 78-03, National Space Science Data Center (NSSDC)/ World Data Center A for Rockets and Satellites (WDC-A-R&S) National Aeronautics and Space Administration Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Maryland 20771.
The data reflected in this graph covers a time period from 500 AD to 28 May 1977. The data for the years 1977 through 1993 is currently being compiled Dr. Winifred Cameron and will be incorporated in this graph when that is finished.
When looking at the data it clear that the spike taking place in the month of July would be attributed to the Apollo 11 spacecraft landing on the Moon on July 20, 1969.
